Manion's Exterior Door Swing Chart

Unlike standard practice, which typically uses 'hand' to describe door swing direction, this chart uses 'hinge' to designate outswing doors. For clarity: the 'hinge' side is determined by standing outside the door and noting the side where the hinges are visible. This method ensures accuracy and consistency in specifying door swings. Refer to the chart to confirm the appropriate hinge or hand designation for your application.

Manion's Interior Door Swing Chart

This chart uses a simple method based on the viewer's position outside the room. Stand in the hallway or adjacent space, facing the doorway as if looking into the room. The door swing is determined by the side on which the hinges are visible and the direction the door opens. This approach ensures consistency and simplifies door swing designation for interior spaces like bedrooms, offices, or closets. Refer to the chart below with any questions!
